The Hanita Lenses Lecture Tour 2026 brought Prof. Gerd U. Auffarth to Japan for a series of scientific meetings, lectures, and clinical discussions focused on the future of refractive cataract surgery. Throughout the tour, leading ophthalmologists explored clinical experience with the Intensity® Pentafocal IOL, advanced optical concepts, and the importance of ocular surface management in maximizing premium IOL outcomes.
The tour began in Tokyo with a visit to Fukuoka Eye Clinic in Nakano, where Prof. Auffarth met with Dr. Sachiko Fukuoka to discuss premium IOL technologies, developments in the Japanese cataract surgery market, and clinical experience with the Intensity® Pentafocal IOL.
In Osaka, Prof. Auffarth delivered a lecture at Nishi Eye Hospital on premium IOL selection and the role of JETT® plasma technology in the treatment of dry eye disease, emphasizing how ocular surface optimization can improve outcomes following premium IOL implantation. The visit also included scientific discussions with Dr. Okihiro Nishi and Dr. Yutaro Nishi on the latest advances in refractive cataract surgery.
The program continued at Wada Eye Clinic, where Prof. Auffarth met with Dr. Kaichiro Wada, an experienced Intensity® user, to review clinical outcomes and discuss Hanita’s Dynamic Light Utilization technology, designed to maximize light efficiency and provide continuous, high-quality vision after cataract surgery.
The Japan tour concluded with an evening symposium in Tokyo, where Prof. Auffarth, together with Dr. Santaro Noguchi and Dr. Seiichiro Hata, presented lectures on premium IOL optical design, clinical performance, and comparative experience with leading presbyopia-correcting IOL platforms.
The symposium also highlighted the growing role of integrated ocular surface management in refractive cataract surgery, presenting the combination of JETT® and Intensity® as a comprehensive approach to helping patients achieve the full benefits of premium IOL implantation.
